DAY 1 – Into the Wild Abandoned Valley
07:00 AM – Welcome guests in Dong Hoi.
08:00 AM – Welcome guests in the Phong Nha area.
08:30 – 09:00 AM – Gather at the Operations Center to receive an introduction to the Abandoned Valley, Thuy Cung Cave, and the surrounding ecosystem within Phong Nha Ke Bang. Covering over 2,000 hectares, this section of the park is one of the most untouched and pristine areas. Learn about trekking routes, safety regulations, and a summary of the journey. Prepare your gear and warm up before trekking.
09:30 AM – Begin your trekking journey into the deep forests of the Abandoned Valley. Walk approximately 4.5 km through dense jungle and mountainous terrain – alternating between flat paths, climbing steep slopes, and crossing sharp limestone ridges. Along the way, immerse yourself in the majestic beauty of towering bamboo forests and winding jungle rivers that define the Abandoned Valley.
11:00 AM – Reach the back door of Dark Cave (Dark Cave Exit). Enjoy a light snack and gear up with helmets and headlamps. Begin exploring 1 km of Dark Cave from the back entrance.
11:30 AM – Enter the most diverse cave complex in Phong Nha Ke Bang:
- A moss-covered stalactite system – a rare formation found in only a few caves.
- Sparkling cave pearls formed by mineral-rich water droplets.
- Time to explore, photograph, and appreciate this hidden gem after completing 6.5 km of trekking through the Abandoned Valley.
01:30 PM – End of sightseeing and enjoy a hearty lunch.
02:30 PM – Continue trekking through the Abandoned Valley. Along the trail, enjoy spectacular views, streams, and limestone ridges before arriving at the campsite near E Cave – a natural jewel of the region.
04:00 PM – Arrive at E Cave Camp and receive tents.
05:00 PM – Free time to swim and experience natural fish massage at the cave entrance (depending on conditions).
05:30 PM – Enjoy a BBQ dinner prepared by the porter team.
06:30 PM – Gather for campfire activities and stargazing (weather permitting).
08:00 – 09:00 PM – Free time to relax, listen to nature, or share stories by the fire. Gaze at the stars above the Abandoned Valley, enjoy guitar music, and let the peace of the forest lull you to sleep in your cozy tent beside Thuy Cung Cave.
DAY 2 – Caving & Exploration in the Abandoned Valley
06:30 AM – Wake up to sunrise and birdsong in the jungle.
07:00 – 07:30 AM – Have breakfast with traditional local dishes.
08:00 – 11:00 AM – Explore the enchanting E Cave:
- Paddle SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboard) inside E Cave for 1.2–1.5 km.
- Capture a special 10–15 second GoPro clip at the entrance of E Cave.
- Join fun water activities: snorkeling, floating on lazy ducks, reading books in tubes, or playing beach volleyball.
11:30 AM – Change clothes, relax, and enjoy light tea and coffee.
12:00 PM – Have lunch before moving on.
01:00 PM – Depart for Golden Cave – one of the underground highlights of the Abandoned Valley.
- Explore 1 km of a 24 km stalactite system, featuring rare rock formations and mineral structures unique to this area of the park.
03:00 PM – End your visit to Golden Cave and start the final 2.5 km trek through jungle terrain and rocky paths.
05:00 PM – Arrive back at the pick-up point at km 9 (Ho Chi Minh Trail).
05:30 PM – Return to Phong Nha or Dong Hoi. Tour ends.
